Culture Box cuts hair in the middle of Exeter — fades, crops, scissor work and beards, at prices that are written down.
Fore Street has no shortage of barbers. What decides which one you go back to is not the interior or the branding — it is whether the cut is right, whether it was worth what you paid, and whether booking it was any trouble.
So that is what this shop is organised around. A haircut is booked as 45 minutes because that is how long it takes to ask what somebody actually wants and then do it, rather than working through a queue. The price list is published in full — £20 for a cut, £28 for hair and beard together — with the concession rate on the menu instead of being something you have to ask for.
Appointments run through a live diary, so you can see what is free tonight without ringing anybody, and change it yourself if your day moves. It is a small thing that removes most of the friction from getting a haircut.
The room got the same treatment. Microcement and black fluted panelling, Renaissance frescoes across two walls, a marble bust under a gold laurel, white leather chairs on chrome, and cyan neon reading the world is yours. None of it cuts hair. All of it says how much attention gets paid here.
